It's really only been a little over two months since the Super Bowl, but when thought about in terms of Han Solo footage, that seems like ages ago. That weekend was the first and last time we saw actual clips from Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story, and we've been patiently waiting for our next glimpse ever since. Thankfully the wait is now finally over, as the latest trailer is now online:
Set years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, Solo: A Star Wars Story dives into the backstory of the titular rogue smuggler before he hooked up with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. It's been hard to get a specific beat on exactly what the film is about, given the secretive, cryptic culture of the franchise, but it does look like there's some kind of heist going down. Alden Ehrenreich plays the lead, with Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany filling out the supporting cast.
While I wasn't head over heels watching the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story - put off by its lack of any interesting hook - this trailer is a whole lot better. Not only does it have a great energy to it, but it also is chock full of cool character moments and cool imagery. For example, hearing Han Solo say, "I have a really good feeling about this," is a fun twist on a classic Star Wars catchphrase (I guess he started getting really pessimistic at some point after this adventure), and Paul Bettany looks pretty freaky as the scarred gangster Dryden Vos:
And while it was first hinted at in the first trailer, this new preview of Solo: A Star Wars Story also confirms the fresh look for the Millennium Falcon. It turns out that the famed freighter ship has long been an incomplete vessel, as that empty space up front is actually supposed to be filled. Maybe it was a cargo holder that had to be dumped for one reason or another?
This trailer is also different from the first in that it also gives a lot of great moments to Chewbacca (he was barely present in the previous preview). Not only is it revealed that he is 190 years old at the start of the story (meaning he is well over 200 in the most recent trilogy), but we even get to see one of the other Wookies in his life to whom he is close. We probably won't know the identity of this furry friend until Solo: A Star Wars Story is in theaters, but we're certainly anticipating the reveal.
We still have a lot of big questions about Solo: A Star Wars Story, but this new trailer definitely does a great job raising our excitement level for it. Unlike the last three Star Wars films, we won't have a super long wait for this one, as the film will be in theaters worldwide in just a few weeks. Fans will find it at their local cinema on May 25, and we will surely have a lot more about the blockbuster for you between now and then!
