With Warner Bros.' Monsterverse starting to really heat up, it's about time that some juicy casting news should start to hit the trades for both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong. While the cast for the former film is mostly announced, the latter looks like it's starting to make its push to glory, as a recent announcement has broken involving a Deadpool 2 cast member being a potential hire. Should this report be true, Julian Dennison, better known to the world as Firefist, will be heading off to the world of combative beasts.
These whispers come from That Hashtag Show, as the site mentions that Dennison is linked to a supporting role alongside returning Godzilla: King of the Monsters co-stars Millie Bobbie Brown and Kyle Chandler. This stands to reason, as it seems Godzilla vs. Kong is looking to start shooting this fall in Atlanta, with the casting net also cast out in hopes to snag Academy Award Winner Frances McDormand as a lead.
Should any of the news stated above be confirmed, Julian Dennison's star would only be continuing to rise after two amazing performances on the silver screen. While he made his first big splash in Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople, his specific brand of sass really shone in David Leitch's Deadpool 2, as his portrayal of Russell / Firefist only further refined that branding. While he'll certainly have to tone it down for an undoubtedly PG-13 environment, there's no doubt that Dennison would be a perfect addition to the cast that's taking shape.
The further movement of the Monsterverse couldn't come at a better time, as hiring an actor like Julian Dennison will only help solidify the fledgling franchise's place at the box office. With so much time passing between 2014's Godzilla and next year's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, there's certainly a large gap between proper installments in the franchise. It does help that Kong: Skull Island helped broaden the universe a bit last year, and things will really pick up steam in the next couple of years when the next two Godzilla flicks arrive. Having Dennison's fiery fists could be a vital piece to turning these raw materials into an engine of success. Only time, and the confirmation of his involvement, will tell.
Godzilla vs. Kong will make its opening arguments, and kick a lot of ass, on May 22nd, 2020; while Godzilla: King of the Monsters will make landfall on May 31st, 2019.
